After the horrific shooting at a school in Graz Austria, the questions of why it happened came thick and fast. Also the other concern was how was it being recieved worldwide for their tourism industry. Thankfully visitors have seen it was an exceptional event by a mentally ill ex-pupil. It has been relatively easy to get a gun and licence, as Austria being a hunting country and very proud of their hunting clubs and gun associations. This ex pupil got the guns legally, and raised the main question..was it too easy to get hold of a gun??
But good that the government is now discussing raising the minimum age to buy firearms from 21 to 25. Other restrictions the chancellor suggested include raising the minimum age to own specific firearms like handguns, having gun permits expire every eight years, strengthening psychological testing and making it mandatory, sharing information across governmental agencies, as well as introducing a four-week waiting period for the delivery of a first weapon. Let’s see what happens over the next few months.
